A Golden Leaf Scarab, Chrysina resplendens, mounted on preserved bark and lichens in a sturdy black wood shadowbox.
Nice and wide, it is meant to be a desk or bookshelf curio. 5x5 x 2.25” deep
These remarkable little beetles look like real burnished gold. They have adapted to live in the Central American rainforest’s dark understory, by drunkenly fly around, flashing like drops of water illuminated by beams of sunlight, thus confusing birds.
The beetle was ethically sourced from a beetle breeder, and is as such imperfect, and the bark and lichens I collected and preserved myself from the lichens that fall off the trees around my house after winter storms.
