More about the materials in this piece: Libyan Desert Glass is an ultra pure natural glass formed 94 million years ago during what was widely believed to be a starfall of some kind. The glass, luminous and the color of raw silk, has intrigued mankind since we first encountered the material during the Pleistocene, where ice age humans crafted it into tools, weapons, and ceremonial items. In ancient Egypt, the glass was crafted into jewelry, including scarabs like this one.
Today, we are still fascinated by this natural desert glass, and we are still carving scarabs.
