Large Amber specimen
Amazing, large Columbian amber specimen, coming in at a whopping 14.6 grams, 4.5 cm long, 4 cm wide, and 1.25 cm thick.
Roughly 4 million years old, this fossil from the early Pleistocene contains dozens of interesting insects.
This specimen mostly contains hymenopterans of some kind; I am not an entomologist but the first impression they give me is that of euglossine orchid bees. There also dozens of tiny flies, and at least one very distinctive mosquito.
Specimens like this are very difficult to pass along! They don’t come around too often and I’ll be keeping whichever of the two large specimens doesn’t sell; I find them equally compelling.
