Large Blue Dino Bone Fossil Pendant
This is a once in a lifetime stone, let me preface with that.
A LARGE, flawless piece of dark blue and green agatized dinosaur bone. Pieces this size, this color, and this quality do not turn up very often. In fact this is the only one like it I have ever been able to acquire, and not for lack of trying.
I wasn’t sure about parting with this fossil, but in looking over my collection and choosing stones to work with, this one kept standing out, and beckoned to be set and given a vessel. It’s time has come.
Set fully in bright white fine silver in my typical style, marked for quality. Bronze and fine silver bail, sterling silver chain.
Looks dark and simple under dim & average indoor lighting. Outdoor or bright light reveals the fine webbing, and incredibly saturated blue and green cells, with a little touch of deep orange.
Southern Utah locality, collected legally by the landowner.
In light of the recent and deeply disappointing sting operation that uncovered a vast amount of gem bone on the market that had been poached from public lands, and cut carelessly, and shipped abroad, and priced accordingly… it is a reminder that dino gem bone is an exceptionally precious material that should always be collected legally, ethically, handled with reverence, and sold with provenance. I am proud to be able to work with this material, and try to act like it.
May this reverance and pride pass to the person who is called by this piece.
