A curio dome stuffed full of the good stuff found on the forest floor in the rainforest. The centerpiece is a Golden Scarab, surrounded by morpho wings, as you’ll often find them beneath orb weaver webs, a blend of leaves and seed pods.

Costa Rican golden leaf scarabs are actually quite abundant, they’re just hard to catch. They’re a forest floor specialist and Dionysian icon; they eat fermented fruit all day so they’re drunk all the time. Their shining metallic wings and drunken erratic flying makes them hard to track by predators.
Just like blue morpho butterflies, they fly in and out of the dark shadows and warm sunbeams in the rainforest, blending in with shining rain on the leaves. They have no other defenses apart from being drunk and beautiful, truly an animal we can all appreciate. .

Another fun fact, magnolias are such ancient organisms, they evolved to be pollinated by beetles, because bees and butterflies hadn’t yet evolved. Included are magnolia leaves and a seed pod.

This isn’t a strictly scientific dome, since I had to use leaves and other materials I could source in the US, but I am very happy with it nonetheless and I hope someone gets a great deal of enjoyment from it.
The morphos were hand raised by a friend of mine and lived out their entire lifespan in a beautiful conservatory.
